Creative Examples of How Businesses Are Using Digital Media While We ‘Shelter In Place’

Minnesota’s “Shelter-In-Place” begins at midnight tonight and lasts for two weeks.

It’s pretty much the trend across the country.

Essential services only, which I found include Caribou Coffee and all liquor stores. So we’re good there.

As we hunker down while the eye of the Covid storm passes overhead, I have been so impressed at the way business and community services have embraced the tools of digital media.

On a personal note, we have had a couple of virtual happy hour get-togethers with friends. Through Zoom, we share a drink and some stories with friends nearby or across the country. Apparently, this is a growing trend.

A friend of mine posted this picture on Instagram following his Virtual Trivia Night. 40 people logged on and it’s a tradition he’s going to continue every Friday.

My wife has been doing virtual workouts with her running group. They all hop on Zoom and get sweaty with the help of a virtual trainer.

Our local library in Chanhassen, MN, is doing daily reading sessions for kids through Facebook video.

Love wine? Many California wineries are holding virtual wine tastings

Here’s an idea for the Minnesota Zoo, virtual safari! The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is doing a daily Facebook Live featuring a different animal each day.

The San Diego Zoo has all of their live cams fired up so you can hang with penguins, tigers, koalas, and giraffes.

And here’s one of my favorites, and not just because I love aviation. Josh Bixler owns FliteTest.com, a very successful RC Airplane company out of Ohio. They built their business using Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Podcasting. Yesterday the owner spent 3 hours on Facebook Live building an RC Plane from scratch. It has over 41,000 views.

The Lesson?

If you own a business, there is no better time than RIGHT NOW to reach out to your people and connect!

Does the thought of Facebook Live scare the pants off you?

Doesn’t matter.

Use your expertise on Facebook Live, whether it’s personal fitness, painting, woodworking, computer repair, real estate, dance, karate, or cooking, to become a teacher.

Your people would love to virtually go into your home and watch you work your magic.

If you have a following, small or large, this will work and will be appreciated by your fans.

But if even the thought of Facebook Live makes you nauseous, then at least reach out once a day with a short-form video.

Be empathetic. Give them your update, and ask them what you can do to make this time easier.

This all boils down to connection, and that is #1 on your list of priorities as we all get through this together.

Need Video Training?

By the way…

If your video skills aren’t as sharp as you would like them to be, Tim Murphy and I are going to host a 30 Day VideoLegend Challenge…

This is for business owners who know the importance of creating short-form content for social media, but just don’t have a handle on how to do it.

It starts April 1st and ends April 30th.

We will send you one video challenge every day.

Your promise to us is to record one video a day based on that challenge.

The video will automatically get sent to us, where we will review it and offer some tips.

This class is extremely tiny…only a handful of participants will be allowed.

And…this challenge is completely FREE.

It’s what Digital Legend can do to help during such a tough time.

So if you have always wanted to be a better content creator, this is your opportunity.

Are you ready for the challenge?

Head here to sign up

This is the video you will see on the sign-up page — it’s my commitment to you!
