LinkedIn Announces Layoffs and Twitter Faces Backlash Over Inactive Account Purge

Today in Content Marketing Daily, a shakeup in social media. LinkedIn is booting hundreds while Twitter has one requirement if you want to keep your account active

First, in LinkedInLand

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform, recently announced layoffs for 716 of its 20,000 employees amid slower revenue growth.

The company plans to close its business productivity team and phase out its China careers app, InCareer.

However, it will also introduce 250 new roles across operations, new business, and account management teams.

That’s 250 roles added to the roles existing employees are already executing, I assume.

CEO Ryan Roslansky expects the macro environment to remain challenging as the company adapts to a rapidly changing landscape.

Meanwhile in Twitterland…

Meanwhile, Twitter owner Elon Musk announced plans to delete inactive accounts, sparking backlash from users concerned about losing accounts of deceased family members and friends.

The move aims to free up abandoned handles, but the platform's policy requires users to log in at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent removal.
